"Revolution Reykjavik" in the New York Times

Admittedly, we are a tad thrilled to announce our mention in the New York Times last Saturday.  Richard Bernstein wrote an interesting piece titled,  Iceland, Rising From Its Ashes With Films,   exploring the status of Icelandic filmmaking today.

We'd love not to brag -- but sorry -- we cannot be helped.

Family Reunion playing on HereTV ?

Could it be that Family Reunion is playing on HereTV?  Although we have not been notified by the US distributor, a quick internet search proves that this just may be the case.   In our minds, this is great news for the HereTV audience.    -- If you happen to catch a glimpse of our debut short, please tell us about it.  We find comfort in knowing that our "first born" is faring well, on its own in the world.

Clean sold to Icelandic National TV Broadcaster

Our talented lead actress, Lauren Hennessy (nominee for Best Lead Actress at Icelandic Film&TV awards) will be making her way onto Icelandic television screens this fall - a fact Icelanders are sure to celebrate.    Clean (Edda Academy Winner 2011) has been officially sold to our national broadcaster, RÚV - making this our third short  film to be purchased by the network.    -- Stay tuned for further details and airdates.

Nordic Talents on the horizon

A glance at the calendar reveals that the "Nordic Talents" pitch competition is merely two weeks away.  A frightening, but equally invigorating realization.

The jury has been announced, and much to my excitement includes such names as Lone Scherfig (Danish writer/director),  Thomas Robsam (Film Commissioner at The Norwegian Film Institute), Lars Blomgren (Managing Director at Swedish Filmlance International), John Webster (Finnish doc director) and Tabitha Jackson. (Commissioning Editor for Arts at Channel 4, UK)

For more on the event, taking place in Copenhagen this September, please visit:  http://www.nordiskfilmogtvfond.com/index.php?ptid=9&sid=16

Busy, busy

For those of you who are still checking in, we'd like to give you a bit of an update, considering there has not been one since March 2011.

Now, where to begin?  Well,  "Clean" went to a bunch of festivals (will supply details in next postings), "Revolution Reykjavik" was sound mixed, color corrected and completed successfully, (let us not forget how humble we are) garnering awards at Columbia University (details to come) while Family Reunion, Committed and Clean were sold to variety of places (info due soon). --  And as if that wasn't enough, "Revolution Reykjavik" is about to officially premiere in its namesake town of Reykjavik.  (some call it a city, but that would be completing over-doing it. (Christina Choe would agree.))

At last, we are excited to announce that yours truly is soon to present her first feature-film proposal at "Nordic Talents" in Copenhagen.   The event in question is a "pitch competition" amongst recent film graduates of the Nordic Countries.   (yours truly qualified, in light of having just received her MFA in writing/directing from Columbia University.)

We have been advised to rehearse our pitches in front of mirrors and videocameras, so that's where you'll find me for the next few weeks;  Rehearsing the art of seduction in front of whatever mirror makes it into my path.   In September, you will find out how I fared.

More soon ---
Wishing you well from our new office in the Arctic.

Clean wins Best Icelandic Short at Northern Wave

We have received the exciting news that CLEAN was honored with the award for Best Icelandic Short Film at the Northern Wave Film Festival recently.

The jury, consisting of Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson, Kristín Jóhannesdóttir and Romain Gavras had the following to say about Clean:

"The film is a merciless view of the auto destruction of a human being. We witness the downfall of the protagonist and the unmasking of the spiraling deception of addiction.   A tour de force performance supported by rough mise en scene and harsh frontal camerawork, create an energetic and consistent piece of film."

Thank you, Northern Wave !    -- Takk fyrir okkur.

Friends of No 9 Productions are encouraged to stick around New York City in late April, for the premiere of "Revolution Reykjavik" - our latest installment.   Dates to be confirmed but we are scheduled to play at the IFC Center in Manhattan's West Village between April 25 and 28.   Stay tuned for details !

Official selection of the Sarasota Film Festival

Clean nominated for the Icelandic Academy Awards 2011. ( two nominations, to be exact !)

Our film Clean, starring the very talented Lauren Hennessy, has been nominated as Best Short Film at the Icelandic Film and Television Academy Awards 2011.  -- AND our very own Lauren has been nominated as Best Actress of the year, for her portrayal of Natalie in said film.  (the only short film in the category)
-- We know how to spot talent !  (we are modest, too)
Congratulations to Lauren, and to all who worked their ass off on our crazy little film.
